Not out yet
Not out yet. In the development build; not in the 0.6.0 download.
Hard Hoof Tech climbs one ladder of ages, T1 to T10. Every machine family climbs the same ladder: a higher tier delivers more (lanes, speed, capacity, range) and sometimes a new ability. Each age has one verb and one key material. This page is the map; each machine's own page has its numbers.
In the 0.6.0 download: the ladder, Tier Kits, the Electric Furnace's ten tiers, the first-machine toast and No. 1 stamp, and the Tiers chapter in the field guide. New in the development build: Tier Casings and signature parts (every Workshop recipe was remapped around them) and the Workshop's Tiers button.
The ages
Only T1 to T5 can be reached today. Tier Kits stop at T5. T6 to T10 are designs, and no machine or kit exists for them yet.
| Tier | Age | New verb | Key material | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Hearth | make power | copper, iron, coal | Coal Generator, 24 V |
| T2 | Steam | pipe fluids | tin, for bronze | Boiler and Steam Turbine |
| T3 | Valve | compute | lead, glass, zinc, silver | planned: high-pressure boilers |
| T4 | Steel | automate | steel, from iron and coke | planned: turbine hall |
| T5 | Atomic | split atoms, open pocket worlds | uranium | the Graphite Pile |
| T6 | Alloy | overclock | aluminium, chromium, nickel | planned |
| T7 | Pressure | go deep | titanium | planned |
| T8 | Superconduct | go far and fast | cobalt, manganese, rare earths | planned |
| T9 | Field | bend fields | platinum metals | planned |
| T10 | World | rewrite reality | iridium, bridgmanite | planned: fusion |
Nothing is gated behind travel. Each material is sparse everywhere and common where it belongs, and every one has a crafting or processing route. See Finding materials.
Tier Casings
A Tier Casing is the shell of a machine. Every machine at the Machine Workshop starts from the casing of its age. These are made at the Workshop, not at a crafting table.
| Casing | Tier | Made of |
|---|---|---|
| Hearth Casing | T1 | 4 iron plates, 4 bricks, 1 copper ingot (makes 2) |
| Bronze Casing | T2 | 4 bronze ingots, 4 iron plates, 1 rubber |
| Lead-Glass Casing | T3 | 4 lead ingots, 4 glass blocks, 1 zinc ingot |
| Steel Casing | T4 | 4 steel ingots, 4 iron plates, 1 iron gear |
| Atomic Casing | T5 | 4 steel ingots, 4 lead ingots, 1 uranium ingot |
Bronze is 3 copper ingots and 1 tin ingot as shapeless crafting into 4 Bronze Blend, each smelted to a bronze ingot. Steel comes from the blast furnace (see Materials and components).
Signature parts
Parts are made two to four at a time and shared by every machine that does the same job. A machine is one casing, one or two signature parts and at most one extra item. The big machine of each age (Boiler House, Server Room, Blast Furnace, Graphite Pile, Dimension Creator) is the exception and may use more.
| Part | Does the job of | Made of | Makes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motor (T1) | anything that moves | 4 iron plates, 4 copper wire, 1 iron ingot | 2 |
| Steel Motor (T4) | the same, stronger | 4 steel ingots, 4 copper wire, 1 redstone | 3 |
| Heating Coil | furnaces, heaters | 6 copper wire, 2 bricks, 1 iron plate | 2 |
| Rollers (T1) | mills and crushers | 4 iron plates, 2 iron ingots, 2 iron gears | 2 |
| Steel Rollers (T4) | the same, stronger | 4 steel ingots, 2 iron gears, 2 iron plates | 2 |
| Bronze Impeller (T2) | pumps, fans, turbines | 4 bronze ingots, 1 iron gear | 2 |
| Steel Impeller (T4) | the same, stronger | 4 steel ingots, 1 iron gear | 2 |
| Bronze Valve | pipes, boilers, tanks | 4 bronze ingots, 2 rubber, 1 iron gear | 2 |
| Copper Contacts | relays, data, controllers | 4 copper ingots, 1 redstone | 4 |
| Silver Contacts (T3) | the same, better | 4 silver ingots, 1 redstone | 4 |
| Lead-Acid Battery Cell | storing power | 4 lead ingots, 1 sulfuric acid, 2 iron plates | 2 |
Later steps for each part (T6 to T8) are designed but do not exist yet.
Example
| Machine | Casing | Parts and extra |
|---|---|---|
| Coal Generator | Hearth | 1 Motor, 1 furnace |
| Electric Furnace I | Hearth | 2 Heating Coils, 1 furnace |
| Hammer Mill I | Hearth | 2 Rollers, 1 Motor |
| Boiler (a five-wide build) | Bronze | 2 Bronze Valves, 1 furnace, 2 cauldrons, 4 iron plates |
| Steam Turbine | Bronze | 2 Bronze Impellers, 1 Motor |
| Implant Bench | Lead-Glass | 2 Silver Contacts, 1 Motor, 2 glass blocks |
For any other machine, open its recipe in JEI. Machines that you program (computers, reality devices) keep a Logic Board.
Tier Kits
A Tier Kit rebuilds a machine one tier higher, in place, and keeps everything inside it.
- Make a Casing for the new tier and a matching Circuit (a Steam, Valve, Steel or Atomic Circuit).
- Put them together at a crafting table (shapeless) to get the Kit: Steam Kit (T2), Valve Kit (T3), Steel Kit (T4), Atomic Kit (T5).
- Right-click a machine of the tier below. The kit also takes the machine's own signature part from your inventory, and the crosshair and JEI say which.
- The machine rebuilds with a short animation. Sneak and right-click to use every kit you carry, one tier at a time.
Tiers go one at a time. A T1 machine takes a Steam Kit, then a Valve Kit, and so on. T1 machines are crafted, not upgraded into, so there is no T1 kit.
| Circuit | Made of (at the Workshop) |
|---|---|
| Steam Circuit | Power Board, 2 capacitors, 2 tin ingots, 2 copper wire |
| Valve Circuit | Power Board, 2 vacuum tubes, 2 zinc ingots, 2 silver ingots |
| Steel Circuit | Power Board, 3 transistors, 1 steel ingot, 2 silver ingots |
| Atomic Circuit | Power Board, 3 transistors, 2 lead ingots, 2 silver ingots |
A kit costs the difference between two tiers. You never rebuy the machine.
Example: the Electric Furnace. Each tier adds a lane, smelts each item about 12% faster, and draws about 8% more power per lane. Energy per item falls about 5% a tier, from 320 J at T1 to 204 J at T10.
The Tiers button
The Machine Workshop has a Tiers button. It opens the field guide's tier chapter at your next age: what the age is for, its metal, its casing and parts, and the first three machines worth building. Use it when you do not know what to build next.
What each age gives you
| Tier | First builds | Showpiece |
|---|---|---|
| T1 Hearth | Coal Generator, Hammer Mill I, Terminal | the Workshop |
| T2 Steam | Boiler and Steam Turbine, Compressor II, Mine Fan II | the boiler house |
| T3 Valve | Server Rack with a Valve Chassis, Crusher III, Blast Furnace Hearth | the server room |
| T4 Steel | Ore Washer IV, Transistor Chassis, the Leach | the blast furnace |
| T5 Atomic | Graphite Pile controller, Dimension Creator, Matter Printer | the pile and your first pocket world |
The first machine you power in each age gets a toast and a No. 1 maker stamp. The reality devices (Matter Printer, Zone Projector, Dimension Creator, Gateway) are Atomic machines. See Reality devices and Dimension Creator and Gateway.
Ore gets better with the ladder: the Hammer Mill (T1), Crusher (T3) and Ore Washer (T4) each give more metal per ore. The Leach (steel-built, T5 use) turns uranium ore into yellowcake.
Finding materials
Nothing you need is only in the Nether, the End or one place.
- Magic Sight is innate. Turn it on from the H wheel and chosen ores glow through rock. See Magic Sight.
- Dowsing Goggles are cheap and can be crafted on day one: 2 leather, 1 copper ingot, 2 glass panes and 1 amethyst shard. Worn, they outline nearby ore and haze veins farther out, and they amplify Magic Sight.
- Every ore is a speck in ordinary stone and rich in the rock it forms in. You still dig it.
